In 2011 Michael Gove, the Secretary of State for Education, announced the intention to set up 100 Teaching Schools for the start of the 2011-12 Academic Year. The Aspire Teaching School was successful in its application and was designated as one of the first Teaching Schools in September 2011. Founded by Gawthorpe Community Academy and St James' CE Primary Academy, the Aspire Teaching School aims to train, coach and develop aspiring oustanding classroom teachers, education leaders and support staff in West Yorkshire.
From September 2013 Gawthorpe Community Academy took over the lead role whilst St James' concentrate on other areas.
The expertise within our alliance of schools was brought together in September 2013 to launch a strategic development group who will lead on the key areas affecting primary education. Our courses and other modes of support will be delivered across the district by both external providers and leaders in education. Aspire TSA also works in very close partnership with Outwood Institute of Education (formerly Outwood TSA).
